The average price of Black & White Whisky is $14 for a 750ml bottle in USA. It has a light taste that is reminiscent of grain whiskey. It is not a bad whiskey for its price tag, but it lacks anything that is commendable.
The Black & White Blended Scotch Whiskey was originally developed by James Buchanan & Co. Ltd. based in London produced. The label was founded by James Buchanan himself. The British institution “House of Common” was originally the namesake for this branded whiskey. The brand was introduced in 1884 and already had a distinctive black and white logo at that time. In the 1890s, the founder James Buchanan himself re-designed the logo with the two West Highland Terriers, which is known today.

How did Black & White get its name
The Black & White Whiskey got its name from the two dogs on the label: A black Scottish Terrier and a white West Highland White Terrier look at the drinker. The brand motif is said to have been founded by founder and blender James Buchanan during the 1890s. Whether it was the popular dog breeds, the distinctive label or the good whiskey – the blend was soon on everyone’s lips.
On Wikipedia someone went to the trouble and collected all the places where Black & White is drunk in novels or films. That’s a whole lot. Even James Bond, otherwise Mr. Martini-shaken-not-stirred, is said to drink Black & White at one point in the book Moonraker by Ian Fleming.
Blends used to make Black & White
Incidentally, the Black & White brand now belongs to Diageo. The main single malt in this blend is probably contributed by Dalwhinnie from the Scottish Highlands. There are also a number of other malts from the Diageo universe, which are also not named. A total of 35 different grains and malts should be included, with a grain share of a proud 60-65%. Black & White is said to sell best in France, Venezuela and Brazil. Strangely enough, you won’t find it on Diageo’s brand website. Just an oversight or is the company in danger of being wound up?
Characteristics of Black & White Scotch Whiskey
Smell
A narrow, honey-like sweetness characterizes the nose of this whiskey. One can smell pear and some marzipan, and the aroma becomes almost nutty after a while. Most striking is the fine smoke and the smell of ashes towards the finish.
Taste
A typical grain taste for a whiskey in this price range runs through the Black & White. If you overlook it, the taste is harmonious, if not very exciting – sweet fruitiness, pear and butter cookies. On the other hand, it is subtly smoky with notes of ash or ashtray. The grain makes it a bit bitter in the back of your palette. This is not terribly bad, but it is annoying when drinking pure.
When mixed with cola
The Black & White whiskey is our opinion does not as well with cola as Johnnie Walker Red Label. The smoke is most likely to be tasted, and the grainy aroma is also present. The mild intermediate notes from pear to shortbread cannot get through. This is not a drink full of character. Is that why the B&W is so rarely served in bars?
