Gin Sour with Cucumber, Wasabi and Basil – a Smashing Recipe

This cocktail is a creation of the Barock Bar in Regensburg Germany. It is a beautiful variation of the classic Gin Sour combines basil, cucumber, gin and wasabi paste

It may sound like someone just put some greens into the blender. In reality this an incredibly fresh summer drink that combines Mediterranean and Asian influences with the aroma of cucumber water. 

What comes out is literally the perfect companion for every warm summer evening.

Recommended Gins

Gins that pair well with cucumber and basil suit this drink nicely.

For instance, Hendrick’s with the touch of cucumber in it, or even Celery Rutte with its celery notes.

Juniper forward (Tanqueray London Dry, Beefeater, Tanqueray 10) or other mild gins (Sipsmith, Caorunn) also work well since they allow the other flavors in this cocktail to shine.

Gin Sour with Cucumber, Wasabi and Basil

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin
  • 2/3 oz lemon juice
  • 10 cucumber slices
  • 1 teaspoon wasabi paste
  • 2/3 oz basil syrup

Instructions

  • Cut thin cucumber slices and briefly rub them together.
  • Add cucumber, lemon juice, gin, wasabi and basil syrup in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, because the wasabi paste has to dissolve.
  • Strain into a long drink glass with ice.
  • Garnish with cucumber and basil leaf.
