As one of the most popular fruit martinis, it’s hard to resist the taste of a well-made apple martini or appletini.
It is a wonderful sweet and sour drink loaded with flavor of apples.
While you may be familiar with the bright green version, there are many variations on this fun cocktail. Recipes range from those using green apple brandy to those with a drier profile that prefer an apple liqueur and dry vermouth. Some recipes even use apple cider or juice instead.
The recipes most often use vodka and are quite diverse. Below we make a semi-dry Apple Martini with apple schnapps.
How strong is an Apple Martini
On average, you can assume that these drinks have an alcohol content of around 25 percent ABV (50 Proof).
That is pretty strong and the sweet-sour taste can make you crave for even more. Keep this in mind because it is very easy to have one drink too many of this delicious cocktail.
Recommended Apple Schnapps
The sweetness of apple schnapps varies, and the lemon juice should be adjusted accordingly. With Bols Sour Apple Liqueur, for example, the lemon in the recipe below should be almost perfect. But feel free to adjust to your taste.
However, if you go for the sour bite of DeKuyper’s Sour Apple Pucker Liqueur, try it with just a squeeze of lemon at first.
To intensify the apple flavor you can use Smirnoff Sours Green Apple Vodka. Note that this spirit is somewhat sweet, so you may have to balance it out with more lemon juice.
Alternatively, you can introduce notes of lemon in your drink by using Absolut Citroen Vodka. A fantastic high end choice would be the Belvedere Citrus vodka.
